Pumpkin Pie Contest Winners

Pumpkin Pie Winners Announced

Congratulations to the winners of the Piggly Wiggly Pumpkin Pie Baking Contest:

Tasting is done, the decisions are final, as the winners of the Piggly Wiggly Pumpkin Pie Baking Contest were announced today.  Pumpkin Pie Baking Contests were held at both Piggly Wiggly locations, the store in Broadway and the store in Sanford.  Both contests ended up in tie votes and additional judges had to be brought in to determine the tie-breakers.

Six pumpkin pies lined the table in the Broadway Piggly Wiggly contest.

In Broadway, the contest was so tough, additional judges were pulled in from shoppers in the store, before a winner was eventually determined.  Six pumpkin pies lined the table as the judges carefully tasted small amounts of each one.  All the judges involved stated that it was a tough decision to have to make, Broadway has some great cooks.

Contestants had to have their pies at both stores by 11:00am.  Special judges selected for each store, sampled portions of each pie and selected their choice for Best Pumpkin Pie.

In the end, Mary Booth was selected as the maker of the Broadway Piggly Wiggly Stores Best Pumpkin Pie.  We hope to get a copy of her recipe to post here on our website.  Congratulations to everyone that entered pies.  It was a job well done.

Moving to the Sanford Piggly Wiggly store, there were also six pies entered in that contest.  Just like Broadway, the Sanford store also ended up in a tie vote for best pie and another judge had to be selected to break that tie as well.  Seems Sanford has some great cooks of their own.  Of course, we already knew that didn’t we?

Congratulations to Amanda Johnson, winner of the Sanford Piggly Wiggly Stores Best Pumpkin Pie contest.

Judges at both locations raved about how all of the pies tasted.  They all certainly seemed to have enjoyed the “pressure” of having to pick out the best one.  Thank you also to all of our judges for the hard work today.

Both Mary Booth and Amanda Johnson received $50.00 Gift Certificates to the Piggly Wiggly store…plus…bragging rights on having the prize winning pumpkin pie.  You did a fantastic job.

Our special thanks also go out to Greg Adams for making the contest possible and for supplying the gift certificates to our winners.  I think this may become an annual event at these stores.  Many thanks also to the staff and employees that helped out at both events.

Hopefully, you’ll stop by one or both locations and do some shopping for your own pies and cakes for the holidays.  Sanford and Broadway both are fortunate to have such great merchants serving our areas.  They are truly involved in the community and offer great customer service to all that visit.  We appreciate their sponsorship of the Swap Shop and always encourage our listeners to tell Greg and his staff that they heard about Piggly Wiggly on the Swap Shop.

“Down home, down the street,”….thats Piggly Wiggly!
