The Annual Cake Bake-Off Contest was held Wednesday at the Lee Regional Fair. There were 11 participants in this years competition.
Judging of the cakes began at 6:00pm with three area residents selected to judge the competion including Joy Scott, Cat Douglas and Swap Shop host Steve Gordon. Cakes were judged based on appearance, texture and taste with points being given in each category. Cake entries received 10 additional points if the cake was made from scratch as opposed to a boxed mix.
First Place: Nancy Howard with a Rocky Road Cake
Second Place: Tunica Tysor with a Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake
Third Place: Erica Crouch with a Cranberry Cheesecake
Each participant received a certificate of recognition, a ribbon and prize money from the Sanford Lions Club. First Place winner Nancy Howard was awarded a check for 100.00 for her entry. Second place received 60.00 and third 40.00.
Recipes for the cakes will be included in the 2011 Ladies Luncheon Cookbook. The Luncheon is held annually in conjunction with Farm City Week. Wanda Howard coordinated the event along with Sharon Raschke, Joyce Mann, Debra Egebert and Susan Condlin from Cooperative Extension. Joe Johnson from the Sanford Lions Club emceed the competition.
